Even for Athletes, Mammoth Lakes is a Family Tradition//Explore Mammoth

Mammoth Lakes is all about making memories and family traditions even for the endurance athletes that now visit the area for high altitude training. One such case is Ben Jacques-Maynes, professional road cyclist and 2014 winner of the King of the Mountains Jersey at the USA Pro Challenge in Colorado. Ben visited Mammoth Lakes this summer to train for the Tour of Utah as well as the USA Pro Challenge, but it wasn’t his first time to the Eastern Sierra. Read more

Living Through Bikes with Leigh Donovan//WorldMinded.com

I met Leigh Donovan while she was coaching a three-day women’s mountain bike camp at Mammoth Mountain Ski Area in July 2014. As she smiled and hugged me, it was immediately apparent that this World Downhill Mountain Bike Champion was the type of woman who serves as an inspiration to those around her. Leigh is the proud owner of I Choose Bikes, a bike clinic business through which she shares her vast knowledge and experience of mountain biking with any woman who’s interested regardless of age, ability, etc. She’s using the I Choose Bikes...

Classic Crystal Lake // MountainHikingSite.com

The hike to Crystal Lake begins in the Mammoth Lakes Basin — a beautiful area in the heart of Mammoth Lakes that boasts beauty and wonder all on its own. Make it to Crystal Lake, however, and you’ll find a special gem. Nestled in an alpine setting at approximately 9,500 feet, Crystal Lake is a popular summertime hike in the Eastern Sierra. While the hike is short (2.7 miles round-trip), the climb is moderately strenuous so make sure to wear sturdy hiking shoes and bring plenty of water. You’ll also want to bring a camera to capture images of...

Language is constantly evolving. Meanings of words and phrases morph over time, often to a great degree. Just think of how the word “gay” has evolved over the past 50-60 years. So when applying a document written in 1923 for an institution founded in 1917 to the management of that institution today, what context do you use? What did the words in the document mean in 1923? How might they be interpreted today? That is the problem currently facing Deep Springs College — that tiny university located among the cattle and the alfalfa fields after...
