The hike to Crystal Lake begins in the Mammoth Lakes Basin — a beautiful area in the heart of Mammoth Lakes that boasts beauty and wonder all on its own. Make it to Crystal Lake, however, and you’ll find a special gem.

Nestled in an alpine setting at approximately 9,500 feet, Crystal Lake is a popular summertime hike in the Eastern Sierra. While the hike is short (2.7 miles round-trip), the climb is moderately strenuous so make sure to wear sturdy hiking shoes and bring plenty of water. You’ll also want to bring a camera to capture images of the dramatic scenery.
